a multi-media publication dedicated
to uplifting transgender creatives.
Many shades of purple but especially lavender, have long been colors associated with queer resistance and multiple queer rights movements. This publication chose Lilacs because they are a similarly unique shade of purple. We hope to evoke our shared history with the rest of the queer community, while differentiating ourselves in our mission to represent trans people specifically.
Journals because they are private, intimate, and true to oneself. The aim for this publication is to be a journal of all trans people to show authentic versions of their artwork/creations that would be censored elsewhere. A journal is a place to be oneself without edits that pertain to the masses of the public media sphere, this publication is a place for this as well. So often, trans people's work, especially work about our own lives, must be censored or heavily altered to further political agendas, keep cis people comfortable, perform likability and respectability politics, and a litany of other highly debatable rationales for censorship.
This publication was created in order to be the antithesis of those ideals. All life is messy, but trans lives are messy in a way that the general public either has no knowledge of or no desire to know of. Who cares what the rest of the world wants? What do WE want, as trans people? What do we need to see stories of? How do we need to see ourselves in each other in order to persevere? These are the questions this publication hopes to touch upon through all of you who submit your work here.
